SSS salary loan computation

The SSS salary loan is a cash advance against your future contributions. Four numbers decide what you get:

Loanable amount = average of 12 latest MSCs (rounded up to the next MSC) × 1 or × 2

Monthly amortization = loan × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−24), where r = annual rate ÷ 12

Net proceeds = loan − 1% service fee − advance interest − old loan balance

Worked example

A member with an average MSC of ₱20,000, 80 posted contributions (12 in the last year) takes a 2-month loan on 16 July 2026:

If the same member still owes ₱20,000.00 on an older loan and renews, the balance comes out of the proceeds and the net amount drops to ₱19,196.71.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I borrow from an SSS salary loan?
A 1-month loan equals the average of your 12 latest posted monthly salary credits (rounded up to the next MSC), and a 2-month loan is double that. Because the MSC counted for the loan is capped at the Regular SS ceiling of ₱20,000, the maximums are ₱20,000 (1-month) and ₱40,000 (2-month). You can also borrow less than the maximum.
How many contributions do I need for an SSS salary loan?
You need at least 36 posted monthly contributions for a 1-month loan and 72 for a 2-month loan. In both cases, at least 6 of them must be posted within the last 12 months before you apply.
What is the interest rate on the SSS salary loan?
SSS reduced the salary loan rate from 10% to 8% per annum on a diminishing balance. The 10% rate still applies to a renewal if you availed of a penalty condonation within the past 5 years. SSS may adjust the rate with market conditions, so confirm it in your loan disclosure statement. You can change the rate in the calculator.
How is the monthly amortization computed?
The loan is repaid in 24 equal monthly amortizations at the annual rate divided by 12. For a ₱40,000 loan at 8%, the monthly amortization is ₱1,809.09, and the total repayment is ₱43,418.16. Payments start in the second month after the loan is granted.
How much will I actually receive?
Less than the loan amount. SSS deducts a 1% service fee and the advance interest (interest for the days until the first amortization month), plus the balance of any previous loan you are renewing. On a ₱40,000 loan granted on 16 July, that is ₱400.00 in fees and ₱403.29 in advance interest, so you receive ₱39,196.71.
Can I get a new loan while I still have a balance?
Yes, through a renewal. The unpaid balance of your old loan is deducted from the proceeds of the new one. The renewal conditions (such as how much of the old loan must be paid) were eased by SSS Circular 2025-004, so check the current rule in My.SSS before applying.
What if I miss payments?
Unpaid amortizations carry a penalty. Guides citing the circular describe 10% a year plus a monthly penalty on balances left after the term, and SSS can deduct unpaid loans from future benefits such as your pension or maternity benefit. Pay on time, and use the SSS penalty condonation programs only when they are announced.
Is the SSS salary loan the same as the calamity or emergency loan?
No. They are separate programs with different limits and rules. The calamity loan is open to members in areas under a state of calamity, and the emergency loan is a short-term facility tied to specific relief programs. This calculator covers the regular salary loan only.
