OFW SSS rules at a glance

Why is the OFW minimum MSC ₱8,000?

SSS sets a higher floor for land-based OFWs than for other self-paying members (₱5,000). In practice most OFWs choose higher. Because the pension counts MSC up to ₱20,000, the ₱20,000 bracket (₱3,000 a month) is the usual "best value" choice for pension purposes. Contributions on a higher MSC, up to ₱35,000, are saved in your MPF account.

When your overseas job ends you may continue paying as a voluntary member to keep your benefits. See the voluntary table and the SSS pension calculator to plan your retirement amount.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the SSS contribution for OFWs in 2026?
Land-based OFWs pay the full 15% of their MSC. The lowest MSC is ₱8,000, so the minimum contribution is ₱1,200 a month. At the ₱35,000 maximum MSC it is ₱5,250. At a ₱20,000 MSC it is ₱3,000. There is no EC.
What is the minimum MSC for OFWs?
₱8,000 for land-based OFWs, per Circular 2024-010. Other self-paying members can go as low as ₱5,000. You can choose any bracket above the minimum, in ₱500 steps, up to ₱35,000.
Is the OFW SSS table different from the voluntary or self-employed table?
The rate (15%), the maximum MSC (₱35,000) and the MPF split are the same, so for the same MSC the OFW and voluntary amounts match. The differences: OFWs start at ₱8,000 instead of ₱5,000, pay no EC (unlike self-employed members) and have their own payment deadlines.
When must OFWs pay their SSS contributions?
Contributions for January to September are due by 31 December of the same year. Contributions for October to December are due by 31 January of the following year. If the date falls on a weekend or Philippine holiday you may pay on the next working day. OFWs can also pay in advance, for any number of months or years, but may have to settle any underpayment if the schedule changes.
Can I change my MSC as an OFW?
Yes. Below age 55 you can change your MSC as often as you like and by any number of brackets, never below ₱8,000. From age 55 you can raise it only once a year and only by one bracket from your last posted MSC. Reductions are not limited. No proof of earnings is needed.
Do sea-based OFWs follow this table?
No. This table is for land-based OFWs. Sea-based OFWs are treated as employees: the manning agency deducts the employee share from their salary and pays the employer share, using the employed table.
Which MSC gives an OFW the best pension?
The pension counts MSC up to ₱20,000. Paying at ₱20,000 costs ₱3,000 a month and counts fully toward the pension average. An MSC above that builds your MPF savings account but does not raise the pension. Check the effect with the SSS pension calculator.
What benefits do OFW contributions cover?
SSS says all benefits apply to covered OFWs, subject to qualifying conditions: retirement pension, disability, death and funeral, sickness and maternity, plus salary, calamity and pension loans. After your overseas employment ends you may continue as a voluntary member. For maternity, check the qualifying period.
Did the OFW contribution table change in 2026?
No. The schedule in Circular 2024-010 took effect in January 2025 and still applies. The rate rose to 15% and the maximum MSC to ₱35,000 in that update.
